Maintaining a healthy level of well being can be elusive for many — and the workplace can be a major player in achieving mental wellness. So what does wellbeing look like in the workplace? Productivity? Happiness? They can play a part. But put simply, employee well being is accomplished when a person's job contributes positively to their overall physical, mental, and emotional health. In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, we've compiled a list of 5 quick ways to jump start your journey to adding more wellness into your workplace.
5 Ways to Elevate Employee Wellbeing:
1. Clarify Expectations - It's important for an employee to know what's expected of them. Having clear direction will minimize frustration and increase engagement. Your employees will feel more confident and will be satisfied when their task is completed.
2. Prioritize Regular Check-Ins - Having one-to-one check-ins will make your employees feel valued and heard. Plus, you'll be more informed and on top of any potential issues or problems that may be arising. Additionally, opening an ongoing dialogue is a great way to boost morale.
3. Offer Professional Development - Putting energy into your employees' development is a great way to start elevating well being. Consider the impact a Zoom stress management session, or a workshop focused on wellbeing, can create for employees. Organizing wellness events will show your team you are willing to invest in their health and well being.
4. Be a Wellbeing Role Model - Everyone needs time to rest and re-energize. Encourage time away from work, model it, and be aware of when you are sending communications. If you expect your employees to be on call 24/7, their well being will suffer.
5. Communicate - Access and exposure is everything. Make sure that employees are aware of any mental health resources that your company provides and be willing to bring up the conversation of mental wellness in your workplace.
